LUNA PARK – Bandinfo

GORNOSTAY is a so-called super group. Besides several guests the main forces behind GORNOSTAY are Ilya Lagutenko, the singer of the most successful Russian alternative pop band Mumiy Troll, and famous producer Pavlo Shevchuk (Zemfira, Mumiy Troll, Fleur, etc.). Loosely and without pressure they have been putting together songs for GORNOSTAY since 2009. But only at the end of 2011 was their debut album “Vosdukh Svobody” released. Here they pick up current trends, but also leave space for spontaneous and at the same time well thought-out songwriting. The result is very positive and very much pop at its finest.
Image OBE DVE hails from Russia’s third biggest city – Yekaterinburg. When they released their debut album in 2011, OBE DVE was praised as newcomer of the year. Besides the remarkable voice of their female singer, it is especially the groove of their rock/pop songs as well as their unvarnished lyrics that excite fans and critics alike. The sound of OBE DVE is crispy and sexy as well as fresh and modern. Thus the band has opened up its own niche without following other female role models in Russian showbiz.
For Lunapark they have recorded a new and exclusive track.

Image MUJUICE is the musical alias of Roma Litvinov, a young graphic designer from Moscow. He began his musical experience in early childhood by composing small piano pieces. Roma rejects any idea of himself as a strictly electronic producer, believing that contemporary artists should use all available resources. He uses his medium as a podium for breaking digital composing stereotypes, borrowing eclectically from acoustic jazz, symphonic music as well as experimental clicks’n’cuts. His current album “Downshifting” was unanimously voted by Russian critics as the Best Russian album of the year.

Image This group’s popularity is so great, that MUMIY TROLL has been voted “Best Band of the Millennium” by Russian music fans. Their alternative pop reminds of Brit pop with a dash of glamour, inventive wit and giant hooks. The talent, charisma, intellect and work ethic of band founder and front man Ilya Lagutenko have made him the quintessential Russian superstar who it is ok to like. He started MUMIY TROLL at the age of 13 almost 30 years ago. But they only really became successful when the band re-started after a long break with their first professional album Morskaya in 1997. To date they have released nine albums.

Image This song is a fortunate meeting of many talents. Yevgeni GRISHKOVEZ is a famous blogger and writer, who has already released several albums together with the electronic musician BIGUDI. ‘Na zare’ on the other hand is a new wave hit by the band Alliance from the Moscow underground of the Eighties. This cover version melts in perfection GRISHKOVEZ’s warm storytelling with BIGUDI’s highly melodic soundscapes. To top this, the singer of Latvia’s superstars BRAINSTORM was engaged for the chorus.

Image KAIF hails from Voronezh and was formed in 1998. The name says it all. KAIF means “great, fun, ecstasy” in Russian. They play a mix of pop and punk with a great broadband production. They sound like an alternative version of the Russian stars Tatu. Their singer Katya, who is also an actress, is a natural born star with a great voice. KAIF has recorded about 100 songs and released two albums. Unfortunately, they ceased to exist in 2010 due to rather tragic circumstances.

Image BARTO was formed in St. Petersburg in 2006 as an electro punk duo (boy doing the electronics and girl shouting/singing). Their lyrics are considered to be amongst the most explicit and radical in Russia. This band is explosive. So far BARTO have released three albums to high critical acclaim and have won numerous prizes and awards. Russia’s most famous musical critic Artemy Troizky says about BARTO: “At last it happened! A simple Russian girl Masha turned up, and calls a cat a cat, not being embarrassed about the coarse language and singing with lots of energy in this fashionable style of electro punk.”

Image UNDERWOOD have been releasing fine rock/pop albums for years and have established themselves as one of the most intelligent and stable Russian bands. The former streets’ musicians became famous in 2001 with their hit ‘Gagarin, ya vas ljubila!’. Since then they have been on rotation in the Russian radio charts. With their subtle irony, their wit and poetry UNDERWOOD’s two front men Vladimir Tkatshenko und Maxim Kutsherenko (trained physicians by trade) have managed to avoid the Russian pop circus and try to see music as a gift and vocation.

Image TREYA has been around as a band since 2008, when they became famous after an appearance on a TV show. Back then TREYA was basically a duo, consisting of TREYA (that’s the alias of the female singer) and Grabstell, a famous Russian musician, with whom she has released two albums so far. TREYA, who originally comes from Belarus, had already released two books of poems and had written lyrics for famous Russian stars including Alla Pugachova. Her filigree appearance, the rapt lyrics and the other-wordly sound of her music, make TREYA the fairy amongst Russian female rock stars.

Image LYAPIS TRUBETSKOY is the biggest and probably only Belarusian musical export. The band plays to sold-out venues from Novosibirsk to Riga. At home in Belarus however, they have been banned since 2010 from playing live as a result of their political lyrics and the outspoken criticism of LYAPIS’ singer Sergey Mikhalok towards Belarus’ totalitarian president. Simultaneously their first CD in the Western world ‘Agitpop’ was released in 2010. On LUNAPARK you can hear the new exclusive song “Ya verju”. There is also a beautiful video clip produced for this track.

Image LUMEN is one of Russia’s most popular rock bands. They write honest and uncompromising songs without paying attention to ‘format’. Nevertheless, many LUMEN concerts are sold-out throughout Russia. The band has been around for some 14 years, has released six studio records and built an impressive collection of prizes. In 2008 they sold out the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow. In 2009 LUMEN supported Linkin Park, which they claim as an influence, on their Russian tour. Despite their stardom, LUMEN is considered to be an honest and straight-forward punk rock band.

Image To call THE RETUSES the Russian Beirut would not be an offence, I guess. Young Michail Rodionov from Moscow was inspired to write his debut album ‘Waltz Baltika!” on a trip to the Baltics. The album sounds like a nostalgic, dreamy waltz on a gramophone while looking at old black and white photographs. He recorded these purposely fragile and imperfect songs at home, playing all the instruments, including the ukulele, guitar, accordion or flute, himself. Now Michail is touring the country with his band THE RETUSES, winning prizes as best newcomer.

Image The singer VARYA DEMIDOVA from Perm writes her ‘girly’ songs herself – sometimes naive, sometimes funny, sometimes startling. The person VARYA DEMIDOVA though is not naive at all. After having been trained as a piano player since early childhood, she studied in Syria and Germany and became a landscape architect. Suddenly last year she started to write songs, which came so easy to her that she recorded her debut album the same year. The circle to her musical childhood has been closed and the future has a sound now.
